Letter from the Wild Wind President

Greetings fellow homeowners, as we are on the advent of a New Year, I hope this letter finds you all in good health and spirits. I look forward to another year as the president of the Wildwind HOA and would like to let you all know what is in the works for the upcoming year.

We will be starting back the Yard of the Month recognition a sign will be displayed in the front yard along with recognition on our web page.  The Community Yard Sale event will be held in the spring and fall this year.  These are just a few of the things we have planned.I’m lookingfor volunteers to be part of a Garden Committee which will work on improvements to our front entrances along with a Social Events Committee to help plan events that will bring us together as a community. Please show your support and feel free to comment on what you would like to see happen join us on Jan 15th.

Community Updates

The city has heard our concerns in the need for speed bumps. Construction for this project is complete. Please be mindful of the speed bumps. The drainage system that is located on Tye Street along the subdivision line will be revamped. We are expecting this project to be complete by February 2012. Also, the Rock Quarry Bridge Project is a construction project currently underway to build a new overhead bridge at the railroad tracks on Rock Quarry Road. If you have noticed, there is slightly more traffic on Tye Street since it has become an alternative route to Rock Quarry Rd. This project is scheduled to be complete by December 21, 2012 Remember to plan for traffic. Finally, the Reeves Creek Walking Trail Project is complete. The city has agreed to “fence off” the subdivision from the trail to provide privacy for our neighborhood, provided GA Power okays the project. This also, provides extra safety net to the homes that are along the trail. The trail is now open for your enjoyment. Please remember safety always come first and “do not liter” on the trail.

Reminders

It is that time of the year again and we want to continue to keep this community looking great.  Wild Wind HOA dues are due by January 1, 2012.  A late fee monthly charge of $32.50 will apply after January 31, 2012.  If you are current on your 2012 HOA dues, we will replace your mailbox and post free of charge.  Again, you must be current on your HOA dues to receive this benefit.
We are going paperless with our newsletters.  This will be our last hard copy.  Wild Wind HOA  has a website.  As you explore our website, you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of this newsletter.  In addition, you will be able to view and down load information; create blogs with you neighbors and stay current with the latest information on the Wild Wind Community.  Furthermore, you willbe able to meet and get to know your neighbors online.  Please register with Wild Wind HOA at: www.wildwind-hoa.com and create your account today.
Our next HOA meeting is scheduled for January 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ted Strickland Community Center located at 130 Berry St, Stockbridge, GA 30281. We have decided that a great way to start the Winter season off is by allowing the neighbors of the Wild Wind Community to share in their best chili tasting experience. We will be hosting our first annual “Chili Cook Off” competition. If you want “show off” your best chili recipe, the registration deadline for the Chili CookOff is January 10, 2012. Please email us your name and address at wildwindhoa@gmail.com to register. Do you have a business or   specialized skill such as: tax service, auto repair, home repair, babysitting, etc.? Wild Wind HOA wants to help you promote your business. Your neighbors could have a need for what you can do. On the other hand, they can have what you are looking for without going too far. We want to continue to make Wild Wind subdivision an even safer community. For 2012, we would like to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program. The city will approve but there are several things needed before we can implement this program. We need your help. We are looking for at least 12 volunteers in being block captains for the neighborhood watch program. If you are interested, please attend the next HOA meeting or contact Wendell Moore a wildwindhoa@gmail.com The holiday schedule for trash will resume its normal schedule on Thursdays for the Christmas and New Year Holiday.

How to add Security to your home

More thefts occur during the holiday season than any other time of the year. However, burglary can happen at any time. Predators find vulnerable homes for a number of reasons. One of the most common reasons is not having enough outside lighting. Remember, thieves like to operate where they cannot easily be identified. Here are 10 important tips on how to add more security to you home:
1. Get a monitored security system
2. Invest in motion detector and timed lights.
3. Keep your house well lit at night especially in the backyard.
4. Inform a close and trusted neighbor to watch your home when you are away.
5. Get a home safe to secure your valuables.
6. Make sure all windows and doors are secured and locked.
7. Park a vehicle in the driveway if you are going away for long period of time.
8. Report any suspicious or unusual activity to the police.
9. Do not advertise your valuables. Close your curtains and blinds at night.
10. Get a dog.
Now that you have a few security tips to put into practice, you can make your home safer with little or no cost.In the upcoming year, we are moving forward with our Neighborhood Watch Program. Again, we need your help.

Tips for Saving on your winter utility bill
The holidays can be an exciting time to host parties, cook holiday deserts and decorate Christmas lights. It is also during this time when it becomes coldand we must turn to heating our homes. A combination of all these events can cause your utility bills to leap very quickly. Here are 8 important tips to save on your utility bills this winter season:
1. Get a programmable thermostat.
2. Seal windows and doors properly with caulk, weather strips and plastic.
3. Change your air filter timely and check your furnace.
4. Change to energy efficiency appliances
5. Close off rooms that are not used often.
6. Do not keep your holiday lights on all night.
7. Keep your temperature in your home around 68° in the winter.
8. Shop around for competitive gas prices
Many of these tips can apply to anytime of the year. Rather, it is the summer or winterseason; no one wants to pay high utility bills.
